Andreas Wittkopf : Suite "Espanola"

The suite “Española” was written in 1984 after the “Spanish Sketches”. It is based on four lute movements by Gaspar Sanz. I reworked the fugue movement at the beginning of May 2005.

The idea of reworking and varying old movements for other instrumentations is not new.
Like the sketches, the work lives from the joy of making music and moves along traditional formal and tonal lines.

The premiere of the first version took place on February 3, 1985, in the ''Michaelskirche'' in Grafrath near Fürstenfeldbruck (Bavaria).

As this piece is very important to me, I arranged it anew for 3 guitars and orchestra in March 2025.

Performance time: approx. 12-15 min.
