Jürgen Gottmann was born in 1961 in Bad Arolsen. He received instruction in the organ from the county cantor Margarethe Rose from 1972 until he graduated from high school in 1981. He began studying church music in 1985 at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main under Edgar Krapp, Hans-Joachim Bartsch and Gerd Wachowski (graduating in 1989).



Since 1991, Jürgen Gottmann has served as cantor and organist in the Lutheran church community in Wuppertal. He also directs several choirs (Chor St. Petri; Chor der Katholischen Hochschulgemeinde Wuppertal; Orff projects with children and confirmation candidates, etc.) and works in various church music councils while composing in his own works for the organ.
