Notes by Roman Jungegger

Roman Jungegger: I was born in Mödling, near Vienna, Austria, and received piano lessons when I was eight years old.

The organ and organ music have fascinated me since my early childhood.
When I was thirteen, I had the privilege of accompanying a mass at the church in my hometown and also performed my own composition at the Beethoven Music School’s final concert (Prelude in G Minor). When I was 20 I gave my first public organ concert in the local Protestant church.
I studied the piano in high school and went onto study medicine in Vienna. At the same time, I studied church music in the Vienna Diocesan Conservatory. On March 16th, 2003 I became the principle organist of the Church of St. Katharina in Vienna Atzgersdorf.

When possible I also play for the Church of St. Othmar in my hometown of Mödling.
I’ve played concert in Vienna, Mödling and Pottenstein, including the “Long Night of Music” at Vienna’s St. Stephan Cathedral, the Mödlinger summer organ festival, the "Wienerwald Organ Fest" and "Imago". I’ve also performed on two CDs.

As an organist and organ composer, I prefer conservative, historical or historically-inspired styles that primarily draw upon the Renaissance and Late Romantic periods. I purposefully avoid dissonant, atonal sounds, which I find uncomfortable and distracting.

For me, music must be, above all else, beautiful and recognizable as such (regardless of musical education or training).

Most of my compositions are preludes for choirs intended for use in liturgies. I have made it my task to create stylistically appropriate, moving preludes that, despite their impressive effects, are easy to play.

I also write transcriptions and arrangements for the organ and soloists.

Since 2011 my scores have been published and are available for sale.

The scores I’ve shared on Musicalion are just a taste of my full range of compositions, which you can find on my website.

My calling is introducing others to the majesty of the queen of instruments!
