Teschner, Melchior 04/29/1584 - 12/01/1635

German church musician, composer, philosopher and theologian.




Teschner attended the gymnasium in Zittau (Saxony) and was taught by Johann Klee. In 1602 he began to study music, philosophy and theology at the University of Frankfurt under Bartholomäus Gesius.





From 1605 to 1608, Melchior Teschner was the cantor and teacher in Schmiegel (Posen). He also studied in Helmstedt und Wittenberg. In 1609 he became the cantor of the Protestant “Zum Kripplein Christi” church in his birthplace, Fraustadt. Five years later he became the pastor of Oberpritschen.
