José Ángel Lamas (Caracas (Venezuela), August 2, 1775 - December 10, 1814) was a Venezuelan composer and one of the most important representatives of classical music.
Lamas is known for his piece Popule Meus, which was composed in 1801 and premiered at the Cathedral of Caracas. Lamas dedicated his life to music and stayed away from politics and separatist activity. As a member of the School of Chacao, a group of composers, he played the bassoon and soprano shawm with the orchestra of the Cathedral in 1789. From 1786 until his death in December 1814, Lamas was the master of the orchestra bajonista.
Among his most famous pieces are "a reward for your virtues", "I bury domino", "Ave Maris Stella", "Mass in D" and "Benedicta et venerabilis".
