David Cantalejo Gómez was born in Bilbao in 1985. He has been greatly interested in playing the piano and composing music ever since he had his first music lesson.
In 2008 he completed his composition studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Navarra “Pablo Sarasate” in Pamplona, where Joseba Torre was one of his teachers. 2012 saw him completing his music studies (piano) at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC) in Barcelona, with Eulàlia Solé as his principal teacher.
Together with the flutist Antonio Íñigo he formed the “Iceberg” duo. The duo has won several chamber music competitions and awards and played concerts in major Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Santander.
His compositions earned him the first prize at the fourth and sixth international composition contest “Durango Hiria”.
He is particularly interested in composing music for piano and smaller chamber orchestras. Also, he has written numerous pieces for flute and txistu where he has tried to “reinterpret” the traditional Basque instrument in order to promote its use in modern music.
His first Sonata for Flute was recorded by flutist Cristina Granero and broadcast on “Radio Clásica”, a public Spanish radio station.
Cantalejo has received various commissions and a number of his works have been published.
In his music, David Cantalejo Gómez always tries to fuse the perspectives of the composer and performer.
