German organist, conductor and composer. Born in Raguhn, he grew up in Leipzig and learned piano and violin there at the "Thomasschule". Already in his youth he performed in public concerts. After a move to Magdeburg he became, along side being an active organist, orchestra and concert director and a teacher for musical art at the cathedral seminary. He died in Magdeburg. His most well-known work today is the canon “It Takes Little to Be Happy, and He Who is Happy is King”.
