He was first taught by his father, then studied at the Royal Institute of Religious Music in Berlin, was music director 1843-52 in Legnica and then conductor in Gera.
In 1869 he performed compositions in North America.
He wrote an opera "Meister Martin und seine Gesellen" (Master Martin and His Companions), a mass, several major compositions for male choir and orchestra: "Eine Nacht auf dem Meere"(A Night by the Sea); "Der Sängerkampf"(The Singer Fight), "Die Harmonie"(Harmony), "Eine Sängerfahrt auf dem Rhein"(A Singer Journey on the Rhine), et al., as well as numerous and popular men quartets.
Under the pseudonym Alexander Czerky he published numerous salon pieces for piano.
Born 1818 in Zaręba near Luban, Poland (formerly part of Prussian Germany). Died 1892.
