This is the only work by Lucia Quinciani which has been passed down through the ages. It deals with oldest known written monody by a composer. Nothing is known about Quinciani's life other than that she was a student of Marc'antonio Negri. He subsequently published her composition in the 2nd volume of the ''Afetti amorosi'' (1611).
It is assumed that she was active as a composer in Verona or Venice.
