Sulptia (Sulpizia) Cesis was born 1577 in Modena, Italy, the daughter of Count Annibale Cesis. He arranged financially for her accommodations in the local monastery of San Agostina in 1593 and henceforth she spent her further life behind monastery walls as a nun and composer. In 1619 she released the collection Motetti Spirituali. Subsequently, she was lost track of; she may have died in the following years in Modena.
