Aniello Califano (January 19, 1870 in Sorrento, Italy – February 20, 1919 in Sant'Egidio del Monte Alibino, Italy) was an Italian poet and author of numerous traditional Neapolitan songs by various composers. Several songs, for example ''O surdato 'nnammurato'', are still popular today. Califano was the son of the landowner Alfonso Califano from Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino; his mother, Rosa Ruspoli belonged to the regional high society. He was an only child and remained in San Lorenzo until he was 18 years old. He died in 1919.
