Italian opera composer who in 1852 as ''Cavaliere dell' Ordine di Cristo'' in Lisbon, Portugal served until his death the Portuguese royals. Composed numerous works of church music but also continued to compose opera. In spite of becoming blind in later years, he was able to continue composing.
