Gaetano Braga (* June 9, 1829 in Giulianova (Teramo), Italy; † November 21, 1907 in Milan, Italy)
was an Italian composer and cellist.
He studied at the conservatory in Naples besides others under the mentorship of Salvatore Mecadante. Subsequently he pursued a career both as composer and cellist and is considered one of the leading cellists of his time in the second half of the 19th century. His 8 operas became very popular as a result of their richness in tune and qualities of drama. Among his compositions which became internationally famous was the piece ''La Serenata'' also referred to as the ''The Angels' Song''. It is a dialogue between a worried mother and her daughter who is severly ill with fever. She hears the voices of the angels calling her and follows them ''O mamma buona notte, io seguo il suon, io seguo il suon!" (O Mother, good night, I follow the sound, I follow the sound!).
