Notes by Rochus Dedler
Rochus Dedler:
Rochus Dedler (born January 15, 1779 in Oberammergau, Germany, died October 17, 1822 in Oberföhring) was a German composer. He is known above all as the composer of a stage music piece for the the Oberammergau Passionsspiele of Father Othmar Weis, a version originally presented in 1811. Originally, Rochus Dedler was destined for a spiritual profession. He was choir boy in the Rottenbuch monastery and went to Munich to study the lyceum of the Benedictines. In 1802, however, he gave up the spiritual career and took a position as teacher and chorister in Oberammergau.
