Ken Shakin is best known for his many books of transgressive fiction, starting with the publication of Love Sucks in 1997. The New York native is a graduate of the Juilliard school with a degree in piano. Transgressing musical borders, his songs have been heard in concert halls, churches and techno clubs. In 2015 the micro company Opéra Ivre was formed to perform longer vocal works. Most recently, the Wandering, an opera based on James Joyce's Ulysses, was premiered on Bloomsday, 2017 at the Irish Embassy in Berlin, and his songs for soprano, chorus and string orchestra were performed at Festival Puycelsi in France.
