Sebastian Bodinus was a German composer and conductor.
The main focus of Sebastian Bodinus' work lies in the field of chamber music. In addition to the usual forms of solo and trio sonata, he has also considered the less common genre of quartet sonata with a whole series of works. Sonata da chiesa's sonatas, with their diverse and varied instrumentation, combine elements of the Sonata da chiesa with those of the concertos and the suite. The latter's influence can also be found in some of his flute concerts, some of which can be attributed to chamber music rather than instrumental concert. The overture for flute (or violin) and strings, on the other hand, features passages marked by the concerto. The symphonies are excellent examples of the early development of the Italian opera symphony. The fresh and imaginative melody is remarkable. Despite gallant influences, the works of Bodinus belong to the late Baroque period.
