I am a classically trained but self taught composer. I trained at music college as a countertenor for three and a half years, but it didn't work out, so I taught myself to sing amateur bass and my ABRSM Grade 8 theory exams. I performed professionally as a countertenor 7 times and was the winner of the Ipswich School Singing Cup in 1995. I sung for Ralph Allwood on Eton Choral Course 1 1995 on 'In Praise of God' on BBC world and for Ben Parry's Aldeburgh Voices. I've been on 4 recordings in total 1 for Hyperion. I have A level music and grade 8 and 5 singing. At present I sing for Roman River Festival, Lexden Church Choir, Pimlot Foundation Family Choir with Daniela Bechly, and TRBC with Brian Kay and Bob Chilcott. I'm also trying to join the local Chamber Choir and am auditioning for Aldeburgh again this September. Over the last few years I've focussed on my career as a bass and composer, poet and author (as I write books also). I have also worked in insurance. Do check my web presence for my career details and names of compositions and pics.
As a composer I am heavily influnced by 20th century music but also the great classical tonal composers such as Haydn and Beethoven. There are 14 piano sonatas and 5 violin sonatas, a cello suite, two settings of the canticles for SATB, a Christmas Chorale Cantata for SATB, 2 carols, a string quartet, a commission of a 3 movement sonata for Brass Quintet, songs, improvisations, and minor works for piano, guitar, voice and violin.
