A German conductor and composer. After completing his musical education, under his uncle Johann Nepomuk Hummel, he was appointed Kapellmeister at the Weimar court theater for several years. There he composed his opera Farinelli. After that, he was the music director in Bamberg and in 1843 moved to Dresden, where under Richard Wagner, he also became the music director at the court theater. Under the impression of Wagner's music, he decided against a performance of his own opera, which he had sent to Dresden. Wagner and him developed a close friendship, especially in the period of the Dresden Uprising. (Wikipedia)
