Czibulka, Alphons 05/14/1842 - 10/27/1894

CZIBULKA, Alphons, Birth: 14 May 1842 Szepes Várallya, Death: 27 October 1894 Vienna; anonymous composer. C. was a imperial and royal army chapel master in Vienna and he could hold his own long in the shadow of the waltz king Johann Strauß (son) as a prolific dance and salon composer with some pieces, among others with "Stephanie-Gavotte" and the "Dream of Love after the Ball". He was less successful with his 6 operettas of which, however, the first one; Pentecost in Florence (Vienna, 1884), initially alongside Millöcker, Zeller and others. One of his librettist Victor Léon Hirschfeld, later wrote the text books et al. for the scholar Fall and Ms. Léhar.
