Bataille lived and worked at the French royal court. There he held the position of music master, initially with Maria von Medici, who held the regency for her son Louis XIII, AND then for the wife of Louis, Anna of Austria.
There are nine books authored him with ''Airs de Cour'' and ''Airs à boire'' (drinking songs) for singing voice and lute. Between 1608 and 1615 six collections (Livres) appeared under the title ''Airs de différentes autheurs, mis en tabulature de luth par Gabriel Bataille''. Bataille also wrote numerous ballet pieces for use at court. Individual works can be found in various contemporary collections of the Paris publisher Ballard.
