Binder, Christlieb Siegmund 1723 - 1789

Christlieb Siegmund Binder lived and died in Dresden. He was a student of Pantaleon Hebenstreit, the inventor of the Pantaleon, a short-lived fashion instrument comparable to a large dulcimer. Binder learned to play this instrument from him and became a member of the Hofkapelle as its player. He then replaced this instrument with the harpsichord and the organ. In 1764 Binder became organist at the Catholic Court Church, where he had the last organ built by Gottfried Silbermann at his disposal. He was considered an important organ and harpsichord player. His works, which are clearly oriented to the style of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, earned him a reputation as a capable composer.
