CONRADI, August, *06/27/1821 Berlin, †05/26/1873 ibid.; German composer and Kapellmeister. Conradi studied harmony and composition (with K.F. Rungenhagen), organ and piano at the Royal Academy of the Arts in Berlin and continued his pianistic education with Liszt in Weimar in 1841. He occasionally sought his advice on questions of instrumentation and obtained a piano version of his gypsy polka. In 1843 Conradi became an organist at the ''Berlin Invalidenhaus'' and was also active as a music teacher. Since 1849 he was successively theatre kapellmeister in Stettin, Berlin, Cologne and finally again in Berlin. Conradi wrote operas, 5 symphonies, church and chamber music, songs, antics for Berlin theatres, also marches, dances and potpourris.
