In 1886 he took over the organist position at the ''Liebfrauenkirche'' and founded a children's choir there with which he was able to achieve considerable success in a short time. Thereupon he was appointed cantor and organist at the Bremen Cathedral on October 1, 1893, after having occasionally substituted for the ailing Carl Martin Reinthaler (1872-1893) as choirmaster and organist some time before.
In 1896 he founded and directed the ''Neue Singakademie''. From 1898 Eduard Nößler also took over the direction of the ''Instrumentalverein'' and the male choir ''Neue Liedertafel Union von 1801''. In 1925 he also took over the ''Lehrergesangsverein'' and together with the cathedral choir various concert tours were undertaken including in Dresden, Vienna, Salzburg and Munich.
He was able to increase his reputation as choir director, organist, pianist and composer to such an extent that the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen appointed him professor in 1907 at the age of 44.
On March 30, 1930, Eduard Nößler gave his farewell concert with the Bremen Cathedral Choir. For 37 years he worked as organist and cantor at St. Peter's Cathedral in Bremen which was longer than his predecessors and previous successors.
At the beginning of the Second World War Nößler moved his residence to Bavaria. Shortly after his 80th birthday he died on September 19, 1943, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. His urn was buried at the Riensberg Cemetery in Bremen.
