Christa Abels was born 1993 in The Hague (Netherlands) and grew up in Marzell, Germany in the southern Black Forest. She comes from a family of musicians. Her father is a classical pianist and her mother a flutist. Her musical career began at the age of nine on the violin. Later she switched to singing and began to write her own songs as well as accompanying herself on guitar and piano. Christa pursued her Bachelor studies in Jazz/Rock/Pop Singing in Dresden with Prof. Celine Rudolph and Prof. Eleanor Forbes. Already during her Bachelor studies she developed her interest in composition. Currently she is completings her Masters in Composition with Prof. Thomas Zoller. In 2018, she formed her current passionate project, the ''Abels Ensemble''. For this project, she writes poetry settings in chamber music instrumentation with voice, piano, oboe, viola and double bass. The debut album was released in spring 2019. Currently Christa is also writing a piece for a large orchestra and new settings for the ensemble. Until recently she lived in Dresden, where she gave singing lessons and conducted a choir while studying. Currently she is in Zurich for half a year, studying composition at the Zurich University of the Arts.
