Michael Cavendish (ca. 1565 - 1628) was an English composer of the Elizabethan and Jacobin period. As grandson of the writer George Cavendish and second cousin of Arabella Stuart, he spent extensive time at court and was for a period the composer of the future King Charles I of England. In 1598 he published a series of songs with lute accompaniment called 'Ayres in Tabletorie'. He also worked together with Thomas Morley.
Michael, gentleman of Cavendish, Suffolk, came from one of the most beautiful villages in England today. As one of the "English Madrigalists" he dedicated eight joyful madrigals to his cousin Lady Arabella Stuart. They are a truly delightful series of musical love letters.
