Johann Christenius (* before 1580; † after 1621). The German composer came from Buttstädt near Weimar. Apart from the fact that he studied in Leipzig in 1580 and was court cantor in Altenburg (Thuringia) around 1619. Further facts concerning his life are not known.
In the years 1609-21 the following were published by him in print: „Select. et Nova Cantio etc. 6 voc.“ (Jenae 1609); „20 anmuthige geistl. Text etc. 4 voc.“ (Leipzig 1616); „Gülden Venus-Pfeil, neue weltl. Lieder, Teutsche und Polnische Tänze“ (Leipzig 1619); „Symbola Saxonica, Fürstl. Personen tägliche Gedenksprüche 3 voc.“ (Leipzig 1620); „Complementum und dritter Theil Fest- und Aposteltägiger evangel. Sprüch, so Melchior Vulpius übergangen, 4—8 voc.“ (Erffurdt 1621); „Omnigeni mancherley Manier neuer weltlicher Lieder, Paduanen etc.“ (Erffurdt 1621).
