Cornelius Freundt (also: Bonamicus) (* 1535 in Plauen, according to other sources also 1539 or 1540; † August 26, 1591 in Zwickau) was a German composer and cantor. Little is known about his life. After working as a cantor in Borna, Freundt was appointed cantor at St. Marien and Quartus at the Zwickau council school in 1565 where he remained until the end of his life.
His works, mostly sacred compositions, Christmas carols and occasional pieces were hardly known beyond Zwickau during his time. Freundt earned lasting merits in three respects: as a music teacher at the then famous Zwickau council school (where he collected numerous musical manuscripts of important compositions of his century), as co-author of texts and movements of his "Christmas Carol Book", and finally continued the genre of the German language psalm motet founded by Thomas Stoltzer around 1525.
