Booker, Keith

Keith Booker was born in Sheffield, U.K., in 1937. He studied English Literature at Hull University. he has lived in Germany since 1972
He has sung in various choirs since about 1947, and composes and plays the piano almost as long. He plays in amateur orchesters (Cello), chamber music groups (piano, harpsichord, cello, recorders, e.g. GREAT BASS RECORDER, (see below) and enjoys playing the piano alone or singing to his own accompaniment. He also danced in a folk dance group for many years. He was never a music teacher of any sort or a conductor - can't make people do what he wants!
He had a good grounding in music theory in the sixth form and later had some lessons in composition from Peter Aston (York University). He would like to point out here, as one who has studied English Literature, that no-one expects a poet to write at length, on demand, or declare who taught him to write poems. Also that he has taken considerable trouble selecting and grouping his texts, and giving them an appropriate setting.

Pieces using the GREAT BASS RECORDER are unfortunately hard to find. I used it in:- Five spirituals, 5 extra spirituals, A Submission, Since thou art false, Ough Warder Mount, Farewell my joy, You and I and Amyas, Consort, Veni Redemptor (Tallis).
The recordings were mostly made in house concerts. I would like to thank those friends who sang, played or listened to my music, Where the performance falls short of perfection, the music as printed is correct.
