Molitor was a Swiss composer and organist of the Baroque and Benedictine periods.
He changed his original name Valentin Müller to the Latin form "Molitor" when he entered the Benedictine monastery of St. Gallen in 1656. There Molitor was ordained priest in 1662. After working as a teacher and organist in various monasteries, he was appointed cantor in the St. Gallen monastery in 1683. He became Kapellmeister there two years later. He spent the last years of his life at the ''Abtei Weingarten'' in Württemberg.
