Matthias Pernstein, composer. * Friedberg (Frymburk, Bohemia), 02/22/1795; † Kufstein (Tyrol), 03/12/1851. He was the son of a linen weaver and beer pub owner. He was trained in singing, violin and music theory with some breaks from the age of twelve by his uncle Matthias Pernstein who was organist in Gmunden (Upper Austria). He then completed pedagogical studies in Linz and worked as a school assistant in Laakirchen (Upper Austria) and Beneschau (South Bohemia). He was later in Hellmonsödt near Linz where he served with a short break as a school teacher, sacristan and choir director for nine years. Pernstein then worked in Salzburg for one year as music director at the ''Landestheater'' (state theater) and subsequently for two years as choir director at the ''Lyceumskirche'' (church). From 1827 he lived in Kufstein as choir director as well as from 1828 as town and church accountant.
