Weiß (Weiss), Laurenz (Lorenz).
* 5/19/1810 Vienna, † 5/22/1888 Vienna. Singing teacher, choral conductor, composer. Son of a master shoemaker. Attended the boys' vocal and violin school of the ''GdM Conservatory'' from 1823 where he also studied harmony and composition until 1830. In 1831-80 Weiss taught choral singing (boys' and men's choirs) at the conservator, and in the late 1830s and early 1840s he also led his own singing class here for the preparatory students of the ''Normalschule zu St. Anna''. From 1845 he served as choir director at the Greek Nonuniate Church in Vienna. In 1850 Weiss founded a private singing school.
