Iara Behs-Dietsche : Carl Orff Competition 2018 Orffeus
The excerpt of the poem "Orpheus Eurydike Hermes" by Rainer Maria Rilke is performed in my setting by Orpheus himself. Orpheus suffers from the terrible loss of his Eurydice. He looks back on his attempt to retrieve his mistress from the underworld. Looking back on the tragedy of his own destiny he dreams of his wife. But he knows the end of his own story.
This work reflects the resignation of a man whose wife has no prospect of a happy life. Just like the many men today who walk stony paths under the most difficult conditions to rescue their relatives from existential dangers. Eurydice is one of the many women who under unfair circumstances end up in one of the modern underworlds such as wars or social constraints-without the chance of liberating themselves from their own forces.
