The artist herself arouses the interest and curiosity of her audience in the works she is about to play with an informative introduction. Besides the classical repertoire and the music of her native country, Brazil, she plays also her own compositions in concert. Today composition is the main focus of her work.
Born in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil, she completed her piano studies with Dirce Knijnik and Norma Bojunga. Passing her final examinations with distinction, she was awarded a grant by the government of Brazil to continue her studies in Germany. This she did at the "State Academy for Music" in Karlsruhe, under Kalle Randalu and Michael Uhde.
While still studying she took part in master classes and music festivals in both Europe and South America together with pianists such as Bruno Canino, Rudolph Kehrer, Roberto Szidon, Lev Vlasenko, Homero Magalhaes, Dinorah Varsi, Miguel Proença and others, which greatly deepened and extended the breadth of her vision of music.
Iara Behs's career as a pianist has already been crowned with a great deal of success. She won first prize in the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra's "Competition for Young Soloists" and was named the "best interpreter of Brazilian music" in a piano competition held by the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. Her activity as a concert pianist has seen her perform in Brazil and in many countries of Europe where she also performed as a soloist with well-known orchestras conducted by Zygmunt Rychert, Arlindo Teixeira, Nestor Wennholz, Alexandru Lascae, Petr Vronsky and others. She has also made recordings for radio and appeared on television.
Iara lives in Germany with her husband and daughter.
