Winer, Johann Georg 03/18/1583 - 1651

Johann Georg Winer (Winerus, Wiener, born on 3/18/1583 in Walldorf near Meiningen, died in 1651 in Heinrichs near Suhl) was a German pastor and composer. Hardly anything is known about his life, except that he was pastor in Walldorf (1607), Oppershausen (1623), Rohr (1627) and finally in his place of death Heinrichs near Suhl (from 1639).

The only musical document of him is a song in the "Gothaer Cantional" (1648) to Psalm 51, verse 12-13 "Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein reines Herze''. The melody is still preserved today in the ''Evangelisches Gesangbuch'' as No. 230.
