Perti, Giacomo Antonio 06/06/1661 - 04/10/1756

Giacomo Antonio Perti (* June 6, 1661 in Crevalcore; † April 10, 1756 in Bologna) was an Italian church musician and composer. Perti studied under his uncle Lorenzo Perti and Rocco Laurenti; later also under Petronio Franceschini. Afterwards, he resided in Venice, Rome, and Parma. In 1690, he succeeded his uncle as Kapellmeister at San Pietro and in 1696 he became Kapellmeister at the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna over a period of 60 years. In addition, he directed the ''Accademia Filarmonica'' for an extended period. He was friends with the Bolognese city secretary and later Electoral Palatine court chamber councillor Giorgio Maria Rapparini, who also wrote an opera libretto for him.

Perti composed masses, oratorios, passions, psalms, hymns and cantatas, as well as serenades and several operas.
