Anton Foerster (* December 20, 1837, in Osenice, Bohemia; † April 17, 1926, in Novo Mesto, Yugoslavia) was a composer of the Romantic period. He served as cathedral Kapellmeister in Ljubljana from 1868 to 1909 and directed the organ school of the ''Caecilienverein'' from 1877. He composed the comic opera ''Gorenjski Slavček'' (originally written as an operetta in 1870-71), which is still performed today and the opera'' Dom in Rod'' (1919-23). He also composed masses and propers, edited Slovenian folk songs, and wrote several instructional works.
