As a composer, Simon had a special stylistic and harmonic character of his own, unencumbered by tradition or fashion. He excelled with oratorios in cantata form, choruses of all genres, vocal chamber music and song creations. His speciality was the omission of the movement and the unusual combinations of instruments at the time, e.g. flute and cello, voice and horn, etc.
