Oscar Peterson : Hymn To Freedom arr. by Christian Romberger
The idea to arrange this piece and to perform it publicly in a church was the intention to set a signal against the Ukraine war. For this purpose, an old tradition is broken in the Sunday service: instead of the usual organ postlude adapted to the respective theme of the Sunday, this hymn is regularly played every Sunday at the end of the service and the congregation is asked to stand up beforehand and mentally deal with the terrible and senseless war in Ukraine.
(This is not a political statement for or against any warring party, but solely a wish that peace and freedom be restored to Ukraine!)
The first public performance of this arrangement of Oscar Peterson's "Hymn to Freedom" took place in Detmold on May 8, 2022. More will follow.
It would be nice if other communities, organizations, associations, etc. could decide to do a similar project in order to set a signal for peace and freedom in Ukraine.
