Heinrich Schwemmer (* 28 March 1621 in Gumpertshausen near Hallburg (Lower Franconia); † 26 May 1696 in Nuremberg) was a German composer of the Baroque period.
Due to the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, Schwemmer arrived in Nuremberg via Weimar and Coburg in 1641. At the so-called Sweden Festival in 1649, he was the bass in Johann Erasmus Kindermann's choir. In 1650 he became adjunct at the school near the Nuremberg church of St. Lorenz. In 1655 he became Collega at St. Sebaldus in Nuremberg. From 1656 he also worked as director chori musici at the Nuremberg Frauenkirche.
Schwemmer was the teacher in piano and in singing of Johann Krieger, Johann Pachelbel and others. In his time he was considered the most popular Nuremberg composer of festive and occasional music. Some of Schwemmer's wedding and funeral music from the years 1656 to 1684 have survived. Some of Schwemmer's church music works have only survived in manuscript.
