Filitz, Friedrich 03/16/1804 - 12/08/1876

Filitz wrote his docterate thesis in philosophy and lived in Berlin from 1833, where he worked among other thins as as a music critic. In 1841, he was shortlisted for the post of censor of the Prussian state, although there were concerns that he might act with too much severity. In 1847, he moved to Munich, where his estate, valuable for church music, is now housed in the Bavarian State Library. Through his collections of church music from the 16th and 17th centuries, he made many forgotten pieces of music accessible to the musical tradition of his time.
