Wikipedia:
Gustav Kneip (* April 3, 1905 in Beningen; † October 24, 1992 in Hamburg) was a German composer, conductor and radio programmer. Famous to this day is the "Swallow Song" composed by him.
Famous were his compositions for various radio dramas in Germany in the period from 1927 to 1951. He also wrote the music for four films: "Das Hermännchen" - Nee, nee, was es nich' alles gibt (1936), "Insel ohne Moral" (1950), "Ich warte auf Dich" (1952), and "Der Glücksbringer" (1957). But less innocuous titles also contributed to his popularity, such as the work written in the zeitgeist of the Saar referendum: "Deutsch ist das Land, das Volk an der Saar" - Kampf um die Saar (1934, text: Johannes Kirschweng) and his "Fliegerlied" - Es donnern die Motoren ihr eisernes Lied in die Welt... (1941, text: Arnold Wiesmann). The greatest commercial success, however, was achieved by his "Schwalbenlied" - Mutterl, unterm Dach ist ein Nesterl gebaut... (1936, text: Theo Rausch), which, in the interpretation of Willy Schneider, sold 300,000 copies in its first year and was covered many times in the following years up to the present day (by Heintje, Heino, Fred Bertelmann, Stefanie Hertel, among others).
