Arthur Johnston (born January 10, 1898 in New York City, New York; † May 1, 1954 in Corona del Mar, California) was a U.S. composer of film music who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song at the 1937 Academy Awards.
Johnston began his career in the Hollywood film industry in 1930 at Melody Man and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song in 1937, along with lyricist Johnny Burke, for the song "Pennies from Heaven" from the film of the same name.
Many of his songs such as "Cocktails for Two", "Just One More Chance" (with Sam Coslow), "Pennies from Heaven" or "Thanks" are still used today in films such as Like a Wild Bull (1980), Everybody Says I Love You (1996), Buddy - The Christmas Elf (2003) and Aviator (2004).
In 1970 he was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
