Leo Leux (* March 7, 1893 in Munich; † September 8, 1951 in Berlin) was a German composer known mainly for film scores.
Gottlieb Wilhelm Leuchs, as the artist's civil name was, worked as a Kapellmeister in various German cities and towns after his participation in World War I in 1918, known among others Cannstatt, before gaining some attention at the Theater am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. He also had some minor roles as a performer in black-and-white films such as Das sonnige Märchen vom Glück (1924), Die lila Hölle (1920), and Der Diener des Herrn Baron (1919), and in 1920 wrote the music for the dance duet of Hans H. Zerlett's Ich weiss eine kleine Diele for the operetta sketch Der Herr von nebenan.
In Berlin, Leux composed and conducted for various revues and had great success with the 1927 revue Gruß an alle. Schlagermelodien in Charleston or Foxtrot rhythm aroused the interest of the film industry. He composed his first film score in 1930 for the comedy Susanne macht Ordnung.
The musical accompaniment of the crime film Truxa (1937) and especially Es leuchten die Ster-ne (1938) confirmed his talent. Leux was on the Gottbegnadeten list of the Reich Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda in 1944.
After the war, he moved to Charlottenburg and eventually died after completing his last work, the film score for the flick Torreani. In 1958 he was briefly seen in the semi-documentary film Das gab's nur einmal.
His gravesite is in the St. Annen Dahlem cemetery.
