Richard Stewart Addinsell (* January 13, 1904 in London; † November 14, 1977 ibid) was a British film composer. He initially studied law at Oxford, but later decided to study music at the Royal College of Music in London. On December 3, 1928, The Old Vic Company premiered the operetta Adam's Opera, based on the book by Clemence Dane, with music by Richard Addinsell. From 1929 to 1932, he continued his studies in Berlin and Vienna. One of Addinsell's best-known works is the music for the film Dangerous Moonlight (1941), a rhapsody for piano and orchestra approximating the style of Sergei Rachmaninoff, which achieved world fame under the name Warsaw Concerto. His longtime partner was the British fashion designer Victor Stiebel.
