Schmalnauer, Johann Michael 1771 - 1845

Johann Michael Schmalnauer was born in Hallstatt in 1771. He worked for the Bad Ischl salt works in Hallstatt and Bad Ischl as a clerk.
Around 1820, Schmalnauer recorded more than 600 dances from the ''Salzkammergut''. Furthermore, a three-movement symphony and numerous pieces of church music by him have been preserved in Hallstatt. Best known is the "Hallstätter Hochzeitsmarsch", originally written for clarinet, viola and violoncello, which is often performed in the folk music scene.
