Kodály Zoltán was one of the most outstanding figures of 20th century Hungarian music culture: composer, folk music researcher, music educator and linguist. His concept of music education, internationally known and recognized, is the basis of music education in Hungary today and plays an important role in the training of professional musicians. Zoltán Kodály has also played a significant role in Hungarian public life, holding a number of public positions and serving as a member or chairman of several organisations and committees. He was known to many influential public figures (musicians, artists, scientists and politicians).
