Pablo Sorozábal Mariezcurrena (San Sebastián, September 18, 1897 - Madrid, December 26, 1988) was a Spanish composer, one of the most important authors of symphonic works and the lyrical genre (zarzuela and operas chicas) of the 20th century. He was born into a modest and large family. He first studied music theory and violin with Alfredo Larrocha at the Municipal Music Academy of San Sebastián and joined the Casino Orchestra of San Sebastián at the age of seventeen. At the age of seventeen he became a member of the San Sebastián Casino Orchestra. In 1918, he went to Madrid to play in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Thanks to his undeniable musical ability, he received a scholarship of 1,500 pesetas from the provincial government of Guipúzcoa to continue his musical studies in Germany, first in Leipzig, where he came into contact with the world of conducting for the first time as conductor of the ''Gotriansteinweg Orchestra'' and achieved his first successes, to later continue them in Berlin, where he completed his studies. He also deepened his knowledge of counterpoint.
