John Jasper McClellan, Jr. (1874-1925) was chief organist of the Salt Lake Tabernacle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1900 to 1925. Born in Payson, Utah, he began as a church organist at the age of eleven. After studying music in Michigan and Berlin, where he edited the German-language LDS hymnal, he returned to Utah and taught music at LDS College and Brigham Young Academy.
As tabernacle organist, McClellan introduced the weekly organ concerts and accompanied the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He composed the hymn “Sweet Is the Work” and served on the church's music committee. In 1910, he made the earliest known solo recordings of organ music on the Salt Lake organ, which were later published in Great Britain. His pupils included important musicians such as Alexander Schreiner and J. Spencer Cornwall.
