Lucien Deiss was a French priest and theologian, as well as a composer and poet of hymns. Deiss joined the Missionary Society of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans) in 1942. He taught at the seminary in Brazzaville, the capital of French Equatorial Africa, until 1948. After returning to Europe, he served at the Spiritan seminary in Chevilly-Larue. He also participated as a liturgical consultant at the Second Vatican Council and worked on the council for the implementation of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, advocating for liturgical reform.
Lucien Deiss composed hundreds of liturgical hymns and songs, often based on biblical texts. Many of his works were widely distributed, reaching millions of copies. In 1954, he composed the melody for the hymn "Praise and Glorify the Glorious Deeds of the Lord," which, with a German text by Diethard Zils, is included in the Protestant hymnal (Evangelisches Gesangbuch, No. 429).
