Luis Barta Galé (1887-1978) was born into a family of artists in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real):
His father, José Barta, was an impresario, director and zarzuela actor, and his mother, Isabel Galé, was the first actress in the same company as they toured Latin America, particularly Mexico. The young Luis began studying music theory in Madrid at the age of six and the violin at the age of nine. In 1901, he made his debut at the ''Teatro Cómico'' with Loreto Prado and Enrique Chicote and subsequently played in the orchestra pits of the Eslava, Príncipe Alfonso, Circo de Price, Noviciado and Salón Regio theaters. At the Madrid Conservatory he was a student of Antonio Llanos, José del Hierro and Valentín Arín. He was a violinist
of the Concert Society and performed under the direction of maestro Ricardo Villa at the ''Gran Teatro'' and ''Jardines del Buen Retiro''. He played in several café sextets, as was customary at the time, and conducted the orchestra in several Madrid theaters. He worked as a copyist at the Madrid Conservatory and was head of the music department of the ''Sindicato Nacional del Espectáculo''.
